We had Cooper's 4 month appointment on January 11th and once again he was in the 97th percentile for both height (28 inches) and weight (18.9). After this appointment he didn't feel good and he wasn't his normal happy smiling baby self. He had to be held almost all the time and was super fussy. Thankfully this only lasted two days.
That weekend we also experienced a couple firsts for Cooper. The doctor suggested we introduce rice cereal. Since I had never mixed rice cereal, I read the directions on the box and came up with this super runny stinky (formula stinks) concoction. I sat Cooper down in his bouncy chair with his bib in place and his proud dad was standing behind me with the video camera ready to go. What I didn't take into account is he LOVES to put his hands in his mouth all the time. He took the first couple spoonfuls OK but soon after he was putting his hands in his mouth and smearing it everywhere. It was a successful first try for all of us since he did finish the bowl. Since that first time I have learned to mix it a lot thicker and try to hold his hands while I feed him. I still always end up with cereal on me somewhere but it's much easier now. Part of that reason is because Cooper has been fighting a cold for awhile now and one of his tricks is to either sneeze or cough and splatter me.
The second first we experienced that weekend was a blow out. For those who don't have kids this is when the baby poops so much that it explodes out of the diaper. Prior to this we had a couple times where it dribbled out but nothing like what we experienced that weekend. It took both of us to clean him up and keep the poop from going everywhere. The poor guy had poop up the middle of his back. We figured out really quickly that he had outgrown his diapers and had to get bigger ones for him. Knock on wood that seems to have stopped the blowouts for now.
Cooper also found his toes recently and that is another thing he loves to put in his mouth. Wait, he puts everything in his mouth now so I shouldn't be so surprised. He loves chomping on my fingers, you would be surprised how much it hurts considering he doesn't have any teeth yet.
